This is an algebra word problem for my homework and it's really hard to solve, please help!

Let x = price of a cup of regular coffee

 

Then x + 0.73 = price of a cup of latte

 

3x + 5(x+0.73) = 16.53

 

3x + 5x + 3.65 = 16.53

 

                 8x = 12.88

 

                  x = $1.61 and x + 0.73 = $2.34

 

Each cup of regular costs $1.61 and a cup of latte costs $2.34.

The answer appears to not come out to the nearest cent.

5l + 3c = 16.53. We know that l is equal to . 73, so

(5x.73) + 3c = 16.53. 

3.65+3c = 16.53,  next step is to isolate the variable so subtract 3.65 from both sides of the equation and we get

3c=12.88. Divide both sides by 3 and,

c=4.29333333.  This is your cost for coffee.
