the sides of an equilateral triangle are one unit more than the sides of a square. If the sum of their perimeters is equal to 107 inches, then find the lengths of the sides of both the square and the triangle

a + 1 = side of triangle

 

P1 = perimeter of square = 4a

 

P2 = perimeter of triangle = 3(a + 1)

 

P1 + P2 =107 inches

 

4a + 3(a + 1) = 107

 

a = 14.857 inches = side of square

 

a + 1 = (14.857 + 1) inches = 15.857 inches = side of triangle
