Solve the exponential equation express the solution and obtain decimal approximation e^x=16.4   How is this done?

take the natural log of both sides

ln(e^x)=ln(16.4)

ln(e^x)=x

x=ln(16.4)

use your calculator to find ln(16.4)

you should get...

x=2.79728

check: e^(2.7972)=(2.7182818...)^(2.7972...)≈16.3986656...which is approximately equal to 16.4
