since 540 tickets were sold we have:
eqn 1) A +B=540
For the money made we have:
eqn 2) 56A + 38B = 24120
From eqn 1 we can solve for either A or B and substitute into eqn 2.
From A + B = 540 we can get A=540-B
using that in eqn 2 we have:
56(540-B)+38B=24120
30240-56B+38B=24120
-18B + 30240 = 24120
-18B = 24120-30240
-18B = -6120
B = (-6120)/(-18)
B = 340
A + B = 540
A + 340 = 540
A = 200
Use eqn 2 to check our answer:
56A + 38B = 24120
56(200) + 38(340) = 24120
11200 + 12920 = 24120
24120 = 24120
Our answer checks as correct.
