mike and kim invest$12000 in equipment  to print yearbooks for schools. Each yearbook costs $5 to print and sells for $15. How many yearbooks must they sell before their business breaks even?

Assign the variable x to represent the number of yearbooks.

12,000 + 5x = 15x

Solve,

12000 = 20x

x = 600,

printing 600 will cost 3000 and the 12,000 for the equipment; in order to break even, the sale total, 15x = 3000+ 12000. 

The answer is 600 yearbooks.
