The rate of change is also known as the slope. If your slope is 3 as in your example, F(x) will increase by 3 when x increases by 1. The rate of change is constant for this function. You will have an increasing rate of change when the function looks like this F(x)=ax2+bx+c where a, b, and c are integers known as coefficients. Linear functions always have a constant rate of change and parabolic functions will have increasing or decreasing rates of change.
