Find the average rate of change of f(x) = x^2 +2
a. = from 3 to 5
b. = from-1 to 1
c. = from 3 to 6

The average rate of change of a function f(x) on an interval [a, b] is defined by:  (f(b) - f(a))/(b-a)

 

(a).  (f(5) - f(3))/(5-3) = (27 - 11)/ (5-3) = 16/2 = 8

 

You should now be able to do parts (b) and (c) on your own.
