Vern can shovel snow from his driveway in 45 minutes. Nina can do the same job in 60 minutes. How long will it take Nina and vern to shovel the driveway if they worked together?

We need to set up an equation that shows how much of the job

the two complete together per minute... Then figure out how many

minutes to multiply that by to complete 100% of the job

 

Vern does 1/45 of the job per minute

Nina does 1/60 of the job per minute

 

(1/45 + 1/60)x = 100%

(1/45 + 1/60)x = 1

(4/180 + 3/180)x = 1

(7/180)x = 1

x = 180/7

x = 25 5/7 minutes to do the job together
