- difference is (x-3)
- eight times of the difference is 8*(x-3)
- which in question is given and is equal to 40 means
- 8*(x-3)=40, now open the brackets we get
- 8x-24=40, now add +24 into both sides to cancel -24 and leave only x number on the left hand side, we get,
- 8x=40+24=64, now divide both sides by 8 to leave x an unknown number on the left we get
- x=8 an answer.
