algebra 2 problem

Find the average rate of change of f(x) = x3 -9x +6
a. From-8 to -5
b. From -1 to 1
c. From 1 to 2
what is the average rate of change of f (x) =x3 + 9x + 6 from -8 to -5

By the way;
I see you changed the original equation at the end.
for  f(x) = x3+9x+6  from -8 to -5
we have
 
f(a) = f(-8) = (-8)3+9(-8)+6 = -512-72+6 = -578
f(b) = f(-5) = (-5)3+9(-5)+6 = -125-45+6 = -164
 
[f(b)-f(a)]/(b-a) = [-164-(-578)]/(-5-(-8)) = 414/3 = 138
