Q:  Once you determine from the factor (w-5) that one solution is x=5, why not just divide both sides of the equation by (x-5) [allowed if the other solution is not x=5) ? -- it makes finding the other solution really easy.

... factor is (x-5) ...   this leaves 5x=(4x+9)     ...   pretty easy
