There are 12boxes on the first floor of Christy's house, 2/3of which she must carry up to the second floor. To go from the first floor to the second floor, Christy climbs 16steps.If Christy carries 2boxes at a timeand does not skip any steps how ,any steps up must she climb?

The number of boxes carried is (2/3)(12) = 8 boxes. 

If 8 boxes are carried upstairs in groups of 2 that is 4 trips.

 

The trick here is to remember that for the first 3 trips upstairs, Christy must also

come back downstairs to get the next 2 boxes.  Christy makes 3 round trips of

32 steps, and one last trip up with the last 2 boxes is another 16 steps.

 

Total steps = 3(32)+16 = 112

 

Answer 2

2/3 of 12 = (2/3)(12) = 8 boxes

 

Christy must carry 8 boxes up the steps, 2 boxes each trip.

 

So, she must go up the steps 4 times.  

 

Number of steps = (4)(16) = 64
