dimensions of the original rectangle?

A rectangle has perimeter 18. If each side of the rectangle is doubled, the perimeter of the new rectangle is 36. What were the dimensions of the original rectangle

2l + 2w = 18
2(2l) + 2(2w) = 36
 
2l + 2w = 18
4l + 4w = 36
 
The two equations are equivalent. Multiple solutions exist.

For example:  A 5 by 4 rectangle has a perimeter of 18 and doubling the length and width gives a 10 by 8 rectangle with perimeter of 36.
 
a 6 by 3 rectangle has perimeter 18
   12 by 6 has perimeter 36
