8x + 6(x-1) = 3(4x+1);
8x + 6x - 6 = 12x + 3;
14x - 6 = 12x + 3;
2x - 6 = 3;
2x = 9;
x = 9/2 = 4.5

Use the distributive property first to expand the equation. 8x+6(x-1)=3(4x+1) 8x+6x-6=12x+3
Next use the inverse property of addition to put the variables on the left side and the constants on the right. 8x+6x-6= 12x+3 8x+6x-6[+6] [-12x]=12x[-12x] +3 [+6] 8x+6x-12x=3+6
Add the variables and constants. 8x+6x-12x=3+6 2x=9
Isolate the variable by dividing the 2. 2x=9 x=9/2 or x=4.5

You can do it! I'll show you how.
8x + 6(x-1) = 3(4x + 1)
First, expand the formulas, then solve for x:
8x + 6x - 6 = 12x + 3
8x + 6x - 12x -6 + 6 = 12x - 12x + 3 + 6
2x = 9
x = 9/2 = 4.5
