A 30-foot flagpole is leaning against my house. If the angle of elevation from the ground to the top of the flagpole is 54, how far is the base of the flagpole From the house ?

use cosine

cos=adj/hyp

cos(54º)=x/30 where x=distance the base of the flagpole is from the house

using a calculator, table of values, or the web..

0.58778525=x/30

30*0.58778525=x

x=17.633 feet (distance from base to house)
