Question

In January a band plays 6 shows and averages 120 people at each show. In February this band plays 4 shows and averages 90 people at each one. What is the average number of people at each show which this band played in these two months?

The average can be found by adding all the show attendances together and then dividing by the total number of shows.

 

Total show attendance was 120(6) = 720 people in January and 90(4) = 360 people in February for a total of 720 + 360 = 1080 people.

 

Divide that by total number of shows (6 in January + 4 in February = 10):

 

1080/10 = 108 people on average at each show
