if this is (y+3)/y = 9: 9 can also be written as 9/1 therefore if you cross multiple across the parenthesis, 9y = y+3; 8y = 3; y = 3/8
if this is y + 3/y = 9; the equation can be multiplied by y on both sides and set equal to 0 to get y^2 - 9y + 3 = 0; using the quadratic equation, y= (-b[+/-]sqrt(b^2 - 4ac))/ 2a where ay^2 + by + c = 0 so a=1 b=-9 c=3, y = (9 + sqrt(69))/2 & (9 - sqrt(69))/2
