A toy rocket is launched

If a toy rocket is launched vertically upward from ground level with an initial velocity of 128 feet per second, then it's height h after t seconds is given by the equation h(t) =-16t2+128t(if air resistance is neglected)
a) how long will it take for the rocket to return to the ground?
b)after how many seconds will the rocket be 112 feet above the ground?
c)how long will it take the rocket to hit max height?
d)what is max height?

What about if the rocket starts out 10 feet off the ground? My question is a rocket starts at 10 feet and has an initial velocity of 60 fps. How long does it take to reach the ground?

In equations like this, the initial velocity is attached to the t and the initial height is added to the end as a constant. So your equation would be h(t) = -16t^2 + 60t + 10. Since you're asked to find out when it hits the ground, you can set h(t) equal to zero as in the question above and solve for t. Your equation won't factor nicely, so you'll need to use the Quadratic Formula to find t. You'll get two answers, but choose the positive one because we're interested in when it will hit the ground in the future.

How would you calculate the time it took this rocket to get to 500ft If velocity is 100f/s and vo is 2ft

As with Justin's comment above, we can write an equation using your initial velocity and initial height: h(t) = -16t^2 + 100t + 2. You're interested in when the height is 500, so plug in 500 for h(t) and solve either by factoring or by using the Quadratic Formula. Your question is similar to the question above where I plugged in 112 for h(t), so use that as a guide.

How many seconds will it take for a rocket to reach its maximum height using this function: h(t)= -16t squared+128t. T is time in seconds after the rocket is launched. The rocket is launched and travels straight up.
