Maximum height? h(t)=-4.9t^2+24.5t+1

A baseball player swings and hits a pop fly straight up in the air to the catcher. The height of the baseball in meters t seconds after it is hit is given by the quadratic function h(t)=-4.9t^2+24.5t+1. How long does it take for the baseball to reach its maximum height?(in seconds) What is the maximum height obtained by the baseball?

This seems like it's worded more like an algebra question, not calculus.

If the equation is a parabola, then the highest point is at the vertex of the parabola. Aren't there ways of finding the vertex of a parabola without calculus? Like, the x coordinate of the vertex is equal to -b/2a, and then you can plug that back into the equation to get the height at that time?
