137 grade six students went on a trip to Lake Nancy.  Each boat holds 10 persons.

 

(A) How many boats will be needed to accommodate all students at the same time?

 

(b) Each boat will complete the course in 7 1/2 minutes for  total of 105 minutes.  How many hours and minutes will this be?

Answer 1

To start with, you need to divide by 137 (number of students) by 10 (number of students per boat).

You will have a remainder so you need to round up.  You can't use half a boat.  137 ÷ 10

 

To determine the number of hours and minutes, you need to divide 105 (total minutes) by 60 (minutes in an hour).  The remainder is your minutes. 105 ÷ 60.
