Mr. Smith drove 23.4 kilometers to the airport? The trip from Long Island to New Providence was 240 kilometers. His taxi ride to his son's house was 2.7 kilometers. How many kilometers did Mr. Smith travel in total?

Simply add the distance of trip to the airport, trip to the cities, and taxi ride to his son's house.

 

 

Total distance = 23.4 km + 240 km + 2.7

 

The thing about adding decimals is that we have to align all the decimals points.

Since there is no digit in the hundredth place, just add a zero in that place.

 

Mr. Smith's total distance is 266.10 km.
