Set up an equation to find how many 1/10 strips we will need.

 

 

Let x = the number of strips.

 

 

(1/10)x = 3/5

 

 

Multiply both sides of the equation by 10.  This is because 10(1/10)x = x.

 

x = 10(3/5)

 

x = 3 * 2

x = 6

 

He will need 6 tenth size strips to have an equivalent of 3/5.
