"Are you thinking in English while speaking German—and could that be what’s really holding you back?"

This is what I am experiencing the most, to think in English and then translate it into German. How can I overcome that block?

You must not try to listen to every single word, sound, detail, but practice passively for the meat of the kernel. of the language, for the heart of the message. You cannot expect a 1 to 1 equivalency between German and English, for the language is logically, semantically different. Practice real-to-life scenes, like ordering food in a restaurant, ordering a hotel room, or paying for an museum ticket. Try placing yourself in the context of an activity. Don't memorize situations, but develop a new mindset, a new perspective. Listen to song, popular podcasts, and tv programs, and you gain self-confidence.
