Dividing a 30 mg tablet into two would give us 15 mg per half tablet. Thus, you can give 1 and a half tablets (30 mg + 15 mg) to give a total of 45 mg PO daily.

If the simvastatin were a capsule instead of a tablet, this would not be possible since they cannot be divided with a pill cutter.
