Actually odds and probability are not the same. For an odds question you put the number of ways to succeed over the total ways to fail. So the answer is 48/4 (there are 48 non-kings and 4 kings...you don't want a king) or reduce to 12.

For probability you need two numbers, a denominator and a numerator.
The denominator is the total number of possible outcomes and the numerator is the total number of desired outcomes ((not a king).
For your problem a full deck has 52 cards, so dealing out one means 52 total possible outcomes. How many cards are not kings. Well, there are 4 kings, so 52-4 are not kings, or 48.
So P(not a king) = 48/52 = 12/13
