You have to think about the social relationship between “self” and “the other”: namely, which is considered to be higher in the social relationship. 3. The giving/receiving verbs (あげる、くれる、もらう) have their higher politer forms (さしあげる、くださる、いただく)。 4. Also these giving/receiving verbs are combined with other many verbs, showing the direction of the action and the higher/lower statuses in the social relationship. If you master the appropriate use of giving/receiving verbs, you accomplish good proficiency!
