Let x be the length of the fence parallel to the side of the barn. Let y be the length of the fence perpendicular to x and the barn.
x+2y=600 --> y=300-x/2
Area, A = xy
A(x) = 300x-x2/2
A'(x) = 300-x
300-x=0
x = 300
y= 300-300/2 = 150
Maximum Area = A = xy = 300(150) = 45000 ft2
