I was first introduced to Orton-Gillingham by a retiring tutor who gave me the Orton-Gillingham Green book, the Orton-Gillingham Jewel Box, and her students. That was in the 1970s.
As I tutored, for over 50 years now, using the Orton-Gillingham phonics principles, because I kept searching for more and all actual words to match the Orton-Gillingham phonics principles, I developed Schuler Phonics PRIMER (based on the Jewel Box but with all noun and verb words so objects or pictures or actions could be related to each word), Schuler Phonics CORE, and Schuler Phonics MASTERY. For those last two books, I developed my Vowel Reference Card, using only the most common vowel sounds (a 3-sounds, e 2-sounds, i 2-sounds, o 3-sounds, u 3-sounds, y 2-sounds, ea 2-sounds, au, aw, al, all, ai, ay, ee, igh, oa, ow 2-sounds, ew, oo 2-sounds, ar, or, er, ir, ur, oy, oi, and ou) for the most common reading and spelling words; once a student understands those basic concepts, those other less common words and rules, sometimes quite rare, can be added when they won't muddle up and complicate the initial learning process.
In 2012-2015, I took an actual Orton-Gillingham college class by an Orton-Gillingham trainer, who certified me in Orton-Gillingham.
Finally, during COVID, I completed my full-color Learn-to-Read Phonetically story books to accompany Schuler Phonics CORE and MASTERY (Combination Collections 1-6, 7-8, 9-12, 13-15, and 16-17), all available in Kindle editions from Amazon.
