y = (x+2)(x-1)(x^2 +8)
= (x^2+2x-x -2)(x^2+8)
= (x^2 +x-2)(x^2+8)
y' = (x^2+x -2)(2x) + (x^2+8)(2x+1)
=2x^3 +2x^2 -4x +2x^3 +x^2+16x +8
= 4x^3 +3x^2 +12x + 8
y = x^4+x^3 +6x^2 +8x -16
y'= 4x^3 +3x^2 +12x + 8

Do you know the product rule? You could try that. Or you could expand the brackets and get the derivative term by term. Better yet, try both and show that you get the same answer. If you get stuck, show us your work and one of the wonderful tutors will guide you along.02/04/23
