Learning to speak is natural while learning to read is not. The English language is a difficult language for these reasons:
- Letter are symbols that represent sounds from left to right on a page.
- In English language 1, 2, 3, and 4 letter can make a sounds(on, she, high, eight).
- The same sound can be spelled in more than 1 way make, play, train, David
- A spelling can represent more than 1 sound (team, steak, head).
The practice of blending (pushing sounds together), segmenting sounds /b/ /a/ /t/ and manipulating sounds is vital to the process of making the patterns in the English language Integrating the letter or letters that represent sounds into speaking, reading, writing and spelling is an efficient way of using language (a natural strength) and match it to letters(s) that represent that sound!
I hope this helps!

Reading to my students is a part of teaching them phonics, in allowing them to just enjoy the story. I want my students to relish reading, therefore I choose appropriate reading materials suitable to their age and interests. It is music to my ears to hear the student laugh and just enjoy a good story. And when the student wants to learn to read, the reading process is much more favorable.01/26/23
