helen's average daily expenditure is $x. juliet's average daily expenditure is $(2/3x).

after 2 weeks, juliet has $3 more than helen. find the value of x.

Amount spent by Helen in two weeks = 14x (2 weeks =14 days)

Amount of money spent by Juliet = 14*2x/3=28x/3

Now, money left with Helen after 2 weeks = 50-14x =M_H

and, money left with Juliet after 2 weeks = 45-28x/3=M_J

Given that Juliet has 3$ more than Helen after 2 weeks, so

M_J= M_H +3

=> 45-28x/3 = 50-14x +3

=> 14x-28x/3=53-45

=> 14x/3=8

=> x=8*3/14 = 12/7
