- Let's call f the spending of your friend: f in $
Now formulate the equations:
- s + f = 22
- f = s - 8
Solve the two equations, for instance by plugging in one variable:
- s + f = 22
- s + (s-8) = 22
- 2*s - 8 =22
- 2*s = 22 + 8
- 2*s = 30
- s = 15
- f = s- 8 = 15-8 = 7
