In a boardgame what weapon will hit more, a sword that rolls 6 D6 (6 sided dice) and hits on 4, 5 or 6, or a sword that rolls 4 D6 and hits on 3, 4, 5 or 6? How many hits per turn is each sword likely to achieve? Thanks in advance.

The average number of hits per turn is equal to:

(Number of Dice) * (Expected Number of Hits per Die)

For the 6d6 sword with 3/6 probability of hitting per die, the average hits per turn is likely to be 6 * (3/6) = 3

For the 4d6 sword with 4/6 probability of hitting per die, the average hits per turn is likely to be 4 * (4/6) = 16/6, or about 2.667
