Use the quotient rule on k(x) to get k'(x) =((2xf(x)+x2f'(x))(x+1)-x2f(x))/(x+1)2 now use the f(1)=-2 and f'(1)=1 in the expression and get k'(1)= (( -2 + 2) +2)/4 which gives k'(1)= 1/2
