Decreasing and increasing rates

A baseball field is a diamond with one length equal to 90 ft. A batter hits the ball and runs towards first base at 27 ft/s.

A) At what rate is his distance from second base decreasing when he is halfway to first base?

B) At what rate is his distance from third base increasing at the same moment?

This doesn't make any sense to me and is not like the other problems - please help!
