Discussion-Political Socialization

Question

For this discussion, I want you to apply the concepts from the reading on Political Socialization to tell us how you have been affected by the agents of political socialization in your life. You don't have to get specific about your political beliefs and values if you don't want to, but you do need to be specific about which agents have affected you and how (for example your parents may have socialized you, but how? Talking about news and politics around the dinner table? etc.). Be sure to post a paragraph or two (or more if you are inspired to share!) explaining your political socialization and demonstrating your ability to apply the concepts from the reading to the real world.

The confluence of politics and group psychology have significant weights on individual politics and philosophies. In short, humans are tribal creatures who sort selves based on morals, perceptions of the world and its order, and what is comfortable and natural or conversely uncomfortable and unnatural. Jonathan Haidt and Robert Wright have written many articles and books on this intersection and I couldn't recommend their writings enough- truly fascinating material and it helps me check my own internal biases.
