Question: A projectile launched rest form the earth's surface has a vertical velocity, in meters, given by dy/dt=-9.8t+60, where t is time in seconds. If the projectile has a constant horizontal velocity of 50 meters per second, what is the projectile's position (x,y) relative to its launch point at t=6 seconds?
1 Expert Answer
Integrating the equation dy = (-9.8t+60)dt you get y-y0 = -4.9t2+60t Here, y0 = 0 (You can also do an indefinite integral and solve for the integration constant C, which is 0 for y(0)=0)
x is obtained by the equation x = 50t (which you can get by integration of dx/dt = 50 and x(0) = 0
(x,y) = (50t, -4.9t2+60t) plug in t = 6 s
