A nurse practice council empowers clinical nurses to implement and maintain standards of nursing practice and patient care. The practice and care standards are consistent with evidence-based practice and the requirements of regulatory agencies.
In many facilities, nurses from different inpatient and outpatient care areas represent their units on a variety of shared governance committees. Although this varies in different facilities, the nurse practice council may include clinical practice, performance improvement, recognition and retention, nurse research participant education, and nursing information systems.
