what is the equation format for solving percent problems

this question is troubling me. I really need the answer to this question because I need it for a test please help

You can do percent problems by setting up the proportion:

 

percent/100 = part/whole

 

Examples:

 

1.  What is 45% of 27?  :   solve 45/100 = x/27

 

2.  45 is what percent of 27?  :  solve x/100 = 45/27

 

3.  27 is 45 percent of what number?  :  solve  45/100 = 27/x

percentage=rate*base

the percentage is the "is" number

the base is the "of" number

the rate is the "%"

examples:

7 is what percent of 20?

7=rate*20

7/20=rate

35/100=rate

rate=35%

 

what is 25% of 32?

percentage=25%*32

percentage=0.25*32

percentage=8

or...

percentage=25%*32

percentage=(1/4)*32

percentage=8

 

15 is 30% of what number?

15=30%*base

15=0.3*base

15/0.3=base

150/3=base

50=base

I don't know how to answer your question other than to say "%" means "hundredths." Literally, percent means "per 100."

 

So, to convert any number from decimal to percent, multiply by 100 and then add the % sign.

 

An easy way to remember this rule is to remind yourself that all of something is 100%.  That is, 1 of something is 100% of it. (Since we know "%" = "hundredths," "100%" means "100/hundredths."
