Solving for "w" means you want the equation to say "w = 'something' "
P = 2l + 2w
You want to get the "w" by itself. So the first step is to get rid of the "2l" by subtracting it from both sides of the equation:
P = 2l + 2w
-2l -2l
--------------------
P - 2l = 2w
Now you are close, but you want just plain "w" not "2w". Notice that the 2 and the "w" are being multiplied. To get rid of the 2, do the opposite, so divided both sides by 2:
P - 2l = 2w
