Algebra one Tutor
Formula 1) Sb= 5+Sa where Sb is the side of square B and Sa is the side of square A.
Formula 2) Sb2 = Sa2 + 100
These are not in the same form, so let's use substitution:
(5+Sa))2 = Sa2 + 100 = 25+ Sa2 + 10Sa = Sa2 + 100
Using algebra: 10Sa = 75 Sa = 7.5
Plugging back means Sb = 12.5 = Area = 156.25
Checking our work: 7.5*7.5 = 56.25, which is 100 less than the area of Square B.
