If A is an event then P(A) + P(A") = 1 (probability A occurring + probability A not occurring = 1)
Here event A is Patricia will win the election and P(A) is equal to 9/14 so:
P(A) = 9/14 and we need to find P(A') which is probability Patricia will not win the election.
Using the equation at the top:
9/14 + P(A') = 1
and P(A') = 5/14
