For each of these problems, you will substitute numerical value for x and solve. These problems increase in difficulty. Here are the first 2. Make sure you understand these first, before we move on to the last 2!!
1) p(x) = x3 - x5
p(-2) = (-2)3 - (-2)5
p(-2) = (-8) - (-32)
p(-2) = (-8) + 32
p (-2) = 24
p(x) = x3 - x5
p(3) = (3)3 - (3)5
p(3) = 27 - 243
p(3) = -216
2) p(x) = -x5 + 4x3
p(-2) = - (-2)5 + 4 (-2)3
p(-2) = - (-32) + 4 (-8)
p(-2) = 32 + -32
p(-2) = 0
p(x) = -x5 + 4x3
p(3)= - (3)5 + 4(3)3
p(3) = - (243) + 4(27)
p(3) = - 243 + 108
p(3) = - 135
