As someone who works with news and statistics, love to see this example :)
Since the news director wants to know whether more than half want to return to regular daytime programming, you're looking at a null hypothesis that doesn't say that and an alternative hypothesis that does.
Null (H-knot): The proportion of viewers who want a return to daytime viewing is less than 50%
Alternative hypothesis: The proportion of viewers who want a return to daytime viewing is not less than 50% (which would of course be greater than or equal to 50%)
