Retired Engineer / Upper level math instructor
dy/dx = x/y
ydy/dx = x
∫ydy = ∫xdx
y2/2 = x2/2 + C1
y2 = x2 + C2
At (3,1)
1 = 9 + C2 --> C2 = -8
y = ±√(x2-8)
dy/dx = x/y
ydy = xdx
1/2y2 = 1/2x2 + C
y2 = x2 + C1 thru (3 , 1): 1 = 9 + C1 , C1 = -8
y2 = x2 - 8 , in explicit form y = ±√(x2 - 8)
In std form for a hyperbola: x2/8 - y2/8 = 1
