BA in Theater from UCLA with 10+ Years of Acting Experience
Theater, throughout history and across the globe, has been used to engage audiences in social issues. If you want to examine this in the world of musical theater, you can take a look at Rent, which grew from Jonathan Larson's experience watching friends live and die through the AIDS crisis. More recently, Hamilton has given a spotlight to a variety of social issues affecting BIPOC in America. If you want to go back in time, there are many examples of socio-political issues being reflecting in ancient Greek dramas. If you want to look in a different part of the world, you can do some research into Butoh, which was, in part, the Japanese dance world's response to the devastation left by WWII. Hope these are some helpful starting points!
