Solving an inequality is very similar to solving an equality. Start with
0.7x - 2 < 5.5
Add 2 to both sides to get
0.7x < 7.5
Divide both sides by 0.7 to get
x < 10.71
To place this on the number line, draw an open circle at x = 10.71 and shade or darken everything to the left of the circle.
The circle is open because it is a strict inequality. If it was less than or equal then the circle would be shaded as well.
