A farmer saw some chickens and pigs in a field. He counted 26 heads and 80 legs. Determine exactly how many chickens and pigs he saw.

14 chickens, 12 pigs

4C+2P = 80

C+P = 26

2C+2P = 52

subtract that last equation from the first to get

2C = 28

C = 28/2 = 14 chickens

P = 26-14 = 12 pigs
