In psychology, stress can be defined as the body's reaction to change that requires some sort of adjustment or response. Some specific areas of stress for police officers are design of tasks, or their ability to differentiate between roles that they take, management style, interpersonal relationships, and work roles.
Vehicle pursuits can be very dangerous. High speed chases risk the lives of police officers, offenders, and innocent civilians. Some efforts that have been put into place to reduce the risks of injury and death are rules that require officers to abide by normal traffic rules, such as stopping at signs and streetlights, and only engaging in vehicle pursuits if the offender is a violent felon.
