Put a point at the origin. Go 1 unit to the right and 4 units down and put a second there. Draw an extended line through both points.
Explanation: for y = -4x, the slope is -4 = rise/run = change in y/change in x = -4/1.
This is also equivalent to 4/-1 whereby another point would be 1 unit left and 4 units up which will be on the same line.
